Last week, on International Mother’s Day, a new initiative was started to serve the 100+ widowed mothers who currently make use of our hospital’s services in Balakot. Whilst they already receive food packs and meals each month via our welfare activities, this new Kitchen Gardening project - launched in our hospital grounds and supported by an Agriculture Officer - will provide them with the resources and skills they need to grow their own seasonal vegetables throughout the year. All part of our philosophy to make communities both more healthy and more self-reliant.
For many around the world, International Mother’s Day is a cherished moment of celebration and recognition of mothers and all their tireless efforts. However, for thousands in difficult circumstances, the day often serves as a heavy reminder of all they must still do to support their families in the years to come. This activity therefore aims to provide some relief and nutritional support for the widows that we serve.
