Long-Term Impact: Hospital Solar Panels

06/11/2024 9:57am

Our DWW Hospital in Pakistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recently undergone a renovation overseen by our new Hospital Manager, including some internal cosmetic and remedial work and changes to the consultation rooms. A new doctor, nurse, midwife and lady health visitor have also been hired, whilst outreach work in surrounding villages has increased with health community events also run in the hospital grounds.

Right now, the hospital is operating with a 5 KV solar panel system, which is insufficient to power all our existing equipment and services effectively. This limitation often results in operational challenges and interruptions such as electricity cuts. Through your support, we plan to upgrade this to a 16KV solar panel system in order to enhance the care and services we are able to provide to our patients.

The Impact of New Solar Panels for the Hospital and Community

The updated 16 KV system would offer significantly more capacity and reliability to support all existing and new equipment without risk of power shortages and therefore maintain uninterrupted healthcare services.

In addition, we could:

  1. Ensure the hospital remains open for longer to treat more patients.
  2. Introduce a full computer system within the building.
  3. Improve diagnostic and treatment facilities through utilising advanced laboratory equipment allowing for quicker and more accurate patient diagnoses.
  4. Expand medical services e.g. with the use of an emergency room X-ray machine, we would be able to expand our services and offer on-site diagnostic imaging, improving response time for emergency situations and reducing the need for patient transfers as well as improve critical areas such as the laboratory, emergency room, X-ray services, and pharmacy.
  5. Enhance AC units to maintain optimal operating conditions for sensitive equipment, preserving their functionality and accuracy. In various hospital areas (waiting room, emergency room, office, residence), this would also provide a comfortable environment, reducing stress for patients and staff.
  6. Increase our economic and environmental impact, reducing our electricity bills and allowing funds to be allocated to other critical areas of patient care. Moreover, this would reduce the hospital’s carbon footprint, contributing to environmental sustainability and aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
  7. Build trust within the community: a well equipped hospital would ensure residents feel confident in the healthcare services available to them. This would therefore attract healthcare professionals and specialists to the area, fostering local development and improving the overall quality of life.
