Overview: How are we supporting?

In Syria:

In North West Syria, there has been serious destruction in the areas where our clinic is located in Afrin Jinderes, and for now there are about 3,000 deaths in total. In Azez Soran, it was shared that about 20 buildings were demolished. In Tal Abyad Suluq, there is no report indicating that buildings are damaged. Mainly the areas of need are Jinderes and Harim.

Right now:

  1. We are providing primary health care, maternity, mental health, internal medicine and dental health services with 65 personnel in our medical centres.
  2. We are the only clinic in the Jinderes IDP camps, which has now increased due to population displacement of earthquake victims. At least 700 additional tents were added and are at capacity with Syrians affected by the earthquake.
  3. We are providing a psychologist and case worker to offer much needed psycho-social support for children and adults that is currently missing in the Jindires IDP camp/area.
  4. We are working towards providing a safe space for indoor and outdoor play areas for children in Jindires IDP camp who currently have nowhere to play or go.

In Türkiye:

Our Turkish medical teams are in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Gaziantep, Malatya, Soran and Adıyaman, providing much needed medical aid through our hospital tents and mobile medical clinics. During the initial 2 months we also provided hygiene kits for families living out in the streets, as well as food, water, heaters and medication.

  1. Regualr Turkish medical teams deployed with 328 medical volunteers currently providing urgent and ongoing medical aid, including internists, paediatricians, nurses, pharmacists, orthopaedic specialists, neurosurgeons and general surgeons.
  2. Two tents, medical equipment and a mobile vehicle from Istanbul immediately provided to ensure safe service of medical/primary care in hard hit cities like Kahramanmaras, and a large truck of further supplies.
  3. Mobile clinics and 24hr tent hospitals with rotas established amongst our 20,000+ strong group of Turkish medical volunteers.
  4. A 152 metres long hospital tent given to Doctors Worldwide by AFAD (the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) to support us in providing healthcare 24 hours a day, equipped with primary health supplies, medicines, and electric heaters.A 152 metres long hospital tent given to Doctors Worldwide by AFAD (the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) to support us in providing healthcare 24 hours a day, equipped with primary health supplies, medicines, and electric heaters.
  5. Immediate needs provided so far include hygiene kits, food, water, heaters and medication.
  6. ‘Friendship’ Tent set up as part of psychosocial support activities for the children affected by the earthquakes in Türkiye, providing them with games, art supplies, balloons, and a safe space to play together.
  7. Trucks sent with other needs including baby milk, nappies and blankets.
  8. Assessments ongoing to determine immediate medical needs as well as mid to long term recovery plans.
