Since the devastating earthquakes on Monday 6th February 2023 resulting in a death toll of approximately 47,000 people so far, Doctors Worldwide’s team in Türkiye have been providing emergency relief and medical aid since day one. Our Turkish medical teams are currently in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Gaziantep, Mersin and Adıyaman, providing much needed medical aid through our hospital tents and mobile medical clinics, hygiene kits for families living out in the streets, as well as food, water, heaters and medication. Meanwhile in Syria, our teams have been taking part in rescue operations and working in shifts to fulfil the demands of earthquake victims with the supplies we already had at our three medical centres. Despite harsh snow storms and freezing cold weather along with broken roads and traffic jams, Doctors Worldwide has been active and on the ground since day one, assisting as many people as possible, with recent activities including:
Several Turkish medical teams deployed to provide urgent and ongoing medical aid, including internists, paediatricians, nurses, pharmacists, orthopaedic specialists, neurosurgeons and general surgeons.
Two tents, medical equipment and a mobile vehicle from Istanbul immediately provided to ensure safe service of medical/primary care in hard hit cities like Kahramanmaras, and a large truck of further supplies.
Mobile clinics and 24hr tent hospitals with rotas established amongst our 20,000+ strong group of Turkish medical volunteers.

Trucks sent with other needs including baby milk, nappies and blankets.
Assessments ongoing to determine immediate medical needs as well as mid to long term recovery plans.
In Syria:
In North West Syria, there has been serious destruction in the areas where our clinic is located in Afrin Jinderes, and for now there are about 3,000 deaths in total. In Azez Soran, it was shared that about 20 buildings were demolished. In Tal Abyad Suluq, there is no report indicating that buildings are damaged. Mainly the areas of need are Jinderes and Harim.
Right now:
We are providing primary health care, maternity, norology, internal medicine and dental health services with 65 personnel in our medical centres.
We are the only clinic in the Jinderes IDP camps, which has now increased due to population displacement of earthquake victims. At least 700 additional tents were added and are at capacity with Syrians affected by the earthquake.
