Our DWW Turkiye team has been working in Gaza for the past 10 years, providing medical care, financial support and equipment in two physiotherapy and rehabilitation centres. Over the last year of escalating violence, we have been specifically responding to the immediate need for access to urgent care, by delivering primary healthcare services in camps and densely populated areas, alongside specialised breastfeeding support for new mothers, with a particular focus on high-risk mothers.
In the last 2 years, DWW has supported five medical tent clinics, a central Primary Healthcare Center (PHC), and GINA, a unique initiative providing support for pregnant and breast feeding mothers in Gaza. The medical tents supported over 200 patients per day via the work of a family doctor, nurse and logistician, taking a comprehensive and biopsychosocial approach with patients. Areas of care covered include health education, psychological support, treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, and early detection of common diseases e.g diabetes.
In total, DWW supported five medical tents, a central Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), and the GINA initiative providing support for pregnant and breast feeding mothers in Gaza. Services were delivered through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach, resulting in the following outcomes:
Our work:
Over 50,000 outpatient consultations were provided at Al-Amal Primary Health Care Centre in Al-Zawayda, serving displaced and camp populations, including NCDs, communicable diseases, wound care, and essential treatments.
More than 8,900 individuals received mental health and psychosocial support in camps across central and southern Gaza, addressing trauma, stress, and psychosocial needs.
17,000+ individuals received subsidised essential medication, including pain relief, NCD treatments, and antibiotics.
Monthly financial assistance was provided to 50 high-risk mothers supporting infants with special needs (e.g. premature babies, twins and triplets, and infants with cleft palate) in a resource-deprived, high-cost setting.
Capacity-building training was delivered to healthcare providers in multiple Gazan hospitals, focusing on breastfeeding support and infection prevention and control.
Around 7,000 medical consultations were provided through three medical tents, taking a comprehensive, biopsychosocial approach with patients.
Over 2,000 people benefited from health promotion activities, increasing awareness of disease prevention and healthy practices.
